We all want accessible, affordable, sustainable and high-quality healthcare. That’s why Amsterdam UMC will keep working towards a healthy future for all. We’re stepping up our efforts on each of our core tasks, because our healthcare system is under great pressure. We’re facing an ever-increasing demand for care, growing health disparities, population aging, international conflicts, climate change and – as a result – new pandemics. And all of this is happening against the backdrop of a tight labor market.
Continuing on our current path is not an option. As one of the leading healthcare institutions in the Netherlands, we feel an obligation to contribute to solutions. We are helping to build a healthcare system that’s ready for the future.
HEALTH DISPARITIES
One way we’re doing this is by reducing health disparities. Because despite the relatively well-developed Dutch healthcare system, health outcomes still vary across regions, socioeconomic groups and ethnic communities.
CLIMATE CHANGE
Climate change is harming the health of people and the planet. The environmental impact of healthcare itself is significant – all the more reason to step up our sustainability efforts and build a knowledge infrastructure to better understand and counteract the negative impact of climate change on health.
CARE SUPPLY AND DEMAND
The growing shortage of qualified healthcare providers is putting further pressure on access to care. Balancing supply and demand will require an enormous effort, and there’s an urgent need to start working smarter. How can we support our professionals in their work?
SOCIAL VALUE
The social value of health shouldn’t be underestimated. As a knowledge institute, our daily work and all of our core tasks are geared towards creating social value. At the same time, we know that good health is about more than just healthcare, which is why it’s so important for us to be connected to the world around us.
COLLABORATION AND DIGITALIZATION
Collaboration and digitalization are key to ensuring equity, accessibility and quality of care. That’s why we’re working to expand and improve our regional, national and international partnerships. Digitalization is providing us with new opportunities to further enhance these collaborations and improve healthcare.
