Advice and employee participation

Amsterdam UMC has various advisory and employee participation bodies that contribute to sound administration and engagement within the organisation: the works council, the nursing advisory council, the medical staff council, the client council and the two faculty medical student councils of VU and the University of Amsterdam. These bodies represent staff, patients and students and provide solicited and unsolicited advice on policy, organisational changes and strategic choices.

Amsterdam UMC Research B.V. also has a works council. Since researchers are spread throughout the organisation, virtually every request for advice or consent presented to Amsterdam UMC’s works council is also presented to the Research B.V. works council, through its board.

Consultation

Requests for consent/advice

A wide variety of topics was submitted to the advisory and employee participation bodies for advice, consent or information in 2025. Amsterdam UMC’s work council received 59 requests for advice or consent. Where applicable, the advice and/or consent of the Research B.V. works council was also included in the decision-making process, through its board. The requests covered a range of topics, including working hours regulations, restructuring and lasting partnerships. Some of those requests were also submitted to the other bodies: Four to the clients council and six to the medical staff council and/or nursing advisory council.
