What do
our patients want?
‘One face for Amsterdam UMC’
‘We see opportunities to take on a governing role in regional healthcare, for coordination and especially for communicating with care providers and patients/citizens. It’s important to be clear about where a patient should go for which kinds of care.
We would also like more transparency about healthcare outcomes: why should you go to Amsterdam UMC? What have we shown that we are good at? Being clear about who you are will also make you more attractive in the labour market.
You can take on a bigger role in the political debate around concentration and diffusion. Deepen your collaboration with partners in Amsterdam to make sure that healthcare in the region continues to be accessible to local patients, and be clearer about the network care with other UMCs.’

Respect.
Care.
Rest.
Communication.
Fun.
iPads. A pop-up in your file so everyone knows it’s your birthday. More appetising food and more colour. Switch off more lights at night. Visits from Cato the rabbit.
These are just a few ideas from the brainstorm session with the Children’s Advisory Council (KAR) at Emma Children’s Hospital. The council is made up of 13 patients aged between 12 and 18 who come together to talk about what they and their peers expect from the hospital and how the care they receive could be improved.
